What is Dry Ice Blasting?

Dry ice blasting is a versatile cleaning method that propels solid carbon dioxide pellets (dry ice) at high speed using compressed air to remove contaminants from surfaces. The pellets are non-abrasive, non-conductive, non-flammable, and non-toxic, making them safe for delicate substrates and sensitive environments. Upon impact, the dry ice sublimates instantly from solid to gas, delivering thermal shock and kinetic energy that effectively dislodges grease, loose paint, residue, mold, and other buildup without damaging the underlying surface profile. This leaves no secondary waste, as the dry ice vanishes into harmless carbon dioxide gas. It is an environmentally friendly, residue-free alternative to chemical solvents, abrasive blasting, or water-based methods and is approved by regulatory bodies such as the EPA, FDA, and USDA. Overall, dry ice blasting delivers fast, thorough cleaning with environmental impact and no cleanup required.

How it Works

Dry Ice Blasting Kinetic Energy

The high-velocity dry ice pellets strike the surface, delivering kinetic force that cracks, loosens, and dislodges contaminants through physical abrasion-like action without damaging the substrate.

Dry Ice Blasting Thermal Shock

The extreme cold of the dry ice (-78.5°C or -109°F) rapidly cools the contaminant layer upon contact, causing it to contract, become brittle, and develop micro-cracks that weaken its bond to the underlying surface.

Dry Ice Blasting Sublimation

Upon impact, the pellets instantly sublimate from solid to carbon dioxide gas, expanding dramatically (up to 700–800 times in volume) to create a micro-explosion or lifting force that blasts the loosened debris away, leaving no residue.
